Until now, Umm Al Quwain has been a quit place where little has changed over the years. The main industries are still fishing and date cultivation. The emirate has six forts and a few old watchtowers around the town. It also has a lagoon with mangroves and a variety of wild birdlife, so it is a great place for someone seeking a quiet week-end break away from the hustle and bustle of Dubai.
