              Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu'alla, born: October 1st, 1952

              Biography:

              Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla received his elementary and primary education in Umm Al Quwain before attending high school in Lebanon. He graduated with a degree in Economics from Cairo University, Egypt in 1974.    

              He was appointed to the UAE foreign ministry in 1973, and seconded at the Umm Al Quwain Amiri court. He was appointed Commander of the Umm Al Quwain Amiri guard in 1977. In 1979, he was appointed chief of the Umm Al Quwain Amiri Court (Diwan) and became crown prince in 1982.    

              In this capacity, Sheikh Saud accompanied his father, the late Sheikh Rashid, to many meetings of the UAE Supreme Council, also deputising for him on a number of occasions Working closely with his father, Sheikh Saud embarked on a reform and expansion of the Government of Umm Al Quwain, establishing a number of new departments and institutions and having recently taken the lead in introducing modern systems of management and electronic systems and in developing Government services to the public and in promoting opportunities for local citizens.

              He has also played an active role in the development of the hydrocarbons industry in the Emirate, having been involved in negotiations related to oil concessions and subsequent exploration, these being crowned with success when he inaugurated Umm Al Quwain’s first offshore gas field in 2006. Sheikh Saud has also served as chairman of a number of public companies, including the National Bank of Umm Al Quwain, the Umm Al Quwain Gas Company and the Umm Al Quwain Cement Company.

              Married to the daughter of Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Saud has ten sons.
